THE INVITATION

10 Honest Reasons to Give Church a Chance Again

Maybe it's been a while.

Maybe you're looking for a church.

Maybe you're trying to figure out what you believe.

Maybe you love God but aren't sure what church looks like in this season of your life.

Or maybe you're simply curious.

Whatever brought you here, here are ten honest reasons we believe there may be a place for you at Perfecting Love Charlotte.

You don't have to have everything figured out.

You don't have to arrive with perfect faith, perfect theology, or perfect answers.

Faith can be strong. Faith can be complicated. Faith can have questions. Sometimes all three are true at the same time.

At Perfecting Love Charlotte, there is room to learn, wrestle, ask, grow, and discover.

You don't have to pretend certainty to belong here.

People gathered in warm conversation

Your person matters more than your performance.

Your gifts are welcome. Your talents are welcome. Your ideas are welcome.

But most importantly, YOU are welcome.

You may be able to sing and need a season when nobody asks you for a song. You may know how to lead and need somewhere you don't have to lead. You may have spent years doing things for church and simply need a place to sit, worship, receive, heal, and grow.

That's okay.

We don't want your coming to church to immediately become work. We want it to become relationship.

Service can grow out of belonging. Belonging does not have to be earned through service.

You can be known here.

Church should be more than occupying the same room for an hour.

We believe community happens when people learn one another's names, stories, victories, questions, struggles, and dreams.

Whether you walk with Perfecting Love Charlotte for a month, a season, or the next fifty years, we want to love you well while our journeys intersect.

You don't have to do life alone.

There's a Word for where you are.

We believe the Word of God is alive, relevant, challenging, comforting, and powerful enough to meet us in the realities of our lives.

At Perfecting Love Charlotte, preaching and teaching are biblical, practical, prophetic, culturally aware, theologically thoughtful, and connected to real life.

We don't believe you have to choose between deep theology and practical application.

Come think.

Come question.

Come wrestle.

Come grow.

There's a Word for where you are.

You can think deeply and worship freely.

At Perfecting Love Charlotte, Word and Spirit belong in the same room.

We believe in serious biblical study, theological reflection, thoughtful questions, and careful interpretation.

We also believe in prayer, passionate worship, spiritual gifts, prophetic expression, and the present activity of the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes we study.Sometimes we shout.Sometimes we do both.

You don't have to choose between a church that thinks and a church that feels.

You can think deeply and worship freely.

You don't have to pretend here.

Bring your faith.

Bring your questions.

Bring your joy.

Bring your disappointment.

Bring your history.

Bring your hope.

Bring the parts of your story you're still trying to understand.

Scripture itself gives us language for celebration, lament, certainty, questioning, worship, wrestling, grief, and hope.

Honest faith is welcome here.

Your children are welcome to be children.

"Parents, you can breathe here."

"If you mess with the kids, you mess with the Pastor."

— Pastor Terrance L. Culp

Bring them. They belong here too.

At Perfecting Love Charlotte, children are not an inconvenience to worship. They are part of the worshiping community.

Babies may cry. Toddlers may get restless. Children may laugh, move, stand, ask questions, or make noise. It's okay. We don't expect children to stop being children when they walk through the doors.

That memorable line reflects something we take very seriously. Children should know that church is a place where they are safe, loved, protected, valued, and wanted.

We will not advertise children's programs that do not currently exist.

What we can promise is this:

Your child's humanity is not disrupting our worship.

Children aren't simply the church of tomorrow. They're part of the church right now.

Your money doesn't determine your worth here.

We believe in generosity. We believe giving is worship. And we believe ministry requires resources.

But we do not believe giving should be rooted in fear, shame, embarrassment, manipulation, or pressure.

Your financial contribution does not determine your value to this community.

Whether you're able to give regularly, occasionally, or you're in a season where giving financially is difficult, there is still a place for you here.

We don't give to earn God's love. We give because we've already received it.

You can belong from wherever you are.

Perfecting Love Charlotte is one church with more than one way to participate.

Some people worship with us in person. Some worship online. Some do both.

Our online community is not an audience watching Perfecting Love Charlotte happen somewhere else. You're worshiping with us.

Work happens. Travel happens. Family happens. Life happens.

Your connection to Perfecting Love Charlotte isn't determined by where you're sitting.

Love is more than our language. It's our assignment.

Perfecting Love Charlotte was inspired by the truth we encounter in 1 John 4:18–21.

God loves us first. His love awakens love in us. And the love we receive from God should become the love people experience through us.

That's what we mean when we say: We love because God loves us.

It isn't simply something we put on a website. It shapes how we want to walk with people.

It's why questions are welcome. It's why children matter. It's why the person comes before the gift. It's why there is room for different expressions of worship. It's why online people are part of the community. It's why we want to love people well for however long God allows our journeys to intersect.

Because God's love was never meant to terminate with us.

We receive His love.

We are changed by His love.

And we extend His love.

We love because God loves us.

Inspired by 1 John 4:18–21.

Maybe it's time to give church another chance.

Not because we're promising Perfecting Love Charlotte is perfect. We're not. We're people.

But we are committed to becoming a community where people can encounter Christ, experience love, wrestle with truth, worship freely, grow honestly, and walk through life without having to walk alone.

You don't have to promise us anything. You don't have to sign up for anything. You don't have to have everything figured out.

Just come.

Come in person.

Join us online.

Ask your questions.

Bring your children.

Bring your story.

Bring whatever faith you have—even if you're still trying to figure out what you believe.

Wherever you are in life, there's a place for you here.

We love because God loves us.

Inspired by 1 John 4:18–21.
