His Story
Born in Boyd Hill.
Called to Charlotte.
Pastor Culp was born and raised in Rock Hill, South Carolina, in the Boyd Hill community — a place that shaped him before he had language for leadership, calling, or theology. He grew up watching faith lived out in real time.
He became a father young. He learned responsibility early. Over the years his calling grew through seasons of joy, loss, disappointment, fatherhood, leadership, failure, healing, and becoming. He has served in ministry, worked in corporate learning and development, taught, spoken, trained leaders, and walked with people through some of the most complicated moments of their lives.
He did not come to Charlotte simply chasing opportunity. He came carrying assignment. Charlotte became the place where so many parts of his life began to converge — his family, his ministry, his professional work, his voice, and his burden for people who love God but have not always felt loved by the church.
That burden eventually became Perfecting Love Charlotte.
In addition to serving as Senior Pastor of Perfecting Love Charlotte, he works in corporate learning, leadership development, communication, and organizational development. This experience allows him to understand many of the realities working people carry, including leadership pressure, workplace anxiety, performance expectations, professional rejection, burnout, organizational change, and the search for purpose beyond achievement.
His ministry seeks to help people bring their whole lives into relationship with God, including their faith, family, work, leadership, questions, pain, and purpose.
He understands both the sanctuary and the workplace.
What Drives Him
Core Convictions
Pain can become a classroom
If you let God teach you in it. Every hard season has shaped the way I pastor.
Church must welcome the whole person
Not just the polished version. People need a place to bring their questions, wounds, history, and humanity.
God can handle our honesty
Faith does not require us to deny pain. It gives us a place to bring it.
Perfect love drives out fear
Many people are not running from God — they are running from a version of God handed to them through fear, shame, or religious trauma.
The Journey
A Life Shaped by Grace
The Beginning
Born and raised in the Boyd Hill community — a place that taught him faith before he had words for it. He grew up watching people survive, serve, pray, and keep going.
The Calling Takes Shape
Became a father young. Learned responsibility early. Carried the weight of family, work, health, and calling — often all at once. Pain became a classroom.
Perfecting Love Charlotte Founded
After seasons of joy, loss, leadership, failure, and healing — and carrying an assignment to Charlotte — Pastor Culp founded Perfecting Love Charlotte on the conviction of 1 John 4:18: perfect love drives out fear.
Pastoring With Purpose
Leading a growing congregation of real people with real questions, while continuing his work in corporate learning and leadership development. Building a church where love is not a slogan — it is a theology.
The Foundation
1 John 4:18-21
"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear."
Perfecting Love Charlotte was founded on this conviction. Many people are not running from God — they are running from the version of God handed to them through fear, shame, control, or rejection. Pastor Culp's calling is to help people meet the God who loves them fully, truthfully, and transformationally.
